A sumptuous short follows the quiet, practiced movements of bee farmers at work in honey production. In hazy, pollen-dusted air, it lingers on the intimate rhythms, sights, and sounds of life around a beehive.

“I’ve long been fascinated by the quiet intensity of family dynamics. The long-lasting traces of conflict rarely arrive in grand gestures or dramatic ruptures, but build over time – through small differences, unspoken disagreements, or simply out of silence. But the lack of speaking doesn’t make these traces easier to carry. If anything, it makes them heavier, harder to name, harder to mend. And when you finally try to talk about it, you can find yourself falling even deeper into doubt.

With Closed Oysters Can’t Speak, I wanted to explore what happens when siblings who once shared everything find themselves almost unable to speak to each other. Not out of hatred, but out of absence. I know that silence. That awkwardness of trying to reconnect with someone bound to you by blood, yet distant enough to feel like a stranger. This film became a way of giving shape to that feeling.

What interests me are not necessarily the grand declarations but the in-between moments. A misplaced joke, a glance that carries both affection and resentment, a conversation that dances around what truly needs to be said. These details, fragile yet ordinary, often reveal more than words ever could.

The film asks what remains when words fail. Sometimes it is a gesture. Sometimes a look. Sometimes nothing at all. But even in that nothingness there can be truth. And possibility of finding one another again.”

His talent for making quite bizarre situations feel relatable has people captivated. Bringing the audience a smile on their face after watching his films is what makes Arrigo’s work so special to us. From directing music videos to commercials, Reuss has worked for companies such as DFB, Kleinanzeigen and Deutsche Bahn. His work feels spontaneous and alive, as he strives to capture the true essence of his subjects.

Tatjana’s career took off in the booming music video world, where she directed over 150 videos for major artists like Nina Chuba, Shirin David and David Guetta, plus campaigns for Adidas, Highsnobiety, and Mercedes-Benz.
